Let's talk briefly about what is bound to be your least favourite room in the house, the laundry. And I mean briefly, let's keep this to a minimum so we can move on to something more interesting.
It's very important to look after your clothes, for your own sake and the world's. Clothes can hold good memories, they are expensive, and the world cannot in all honesty sustain what is known as 'fast fashion'.
Here's a little rundown on how to get the most out of your wardrobe:
- Essentially, washing is not good for clothing, so wash your clothes as little as possible. Washing will make colours fade and shorten the lifespan of the garment. Instead, hang them up when you're finished wearing and put them somewhere where they can catch a breeze and freshen up.
- If you have a spill try spot cleaning the mark first.
- Of course, sometimes they need to take a dip in the machine. In this case, read the care tag, use a low water temperature, a fast cycle and a mild detergent like Omo Sensitive. Hang in the shade. The sun will fade clothes so quickly you can almost see it happeing in real time.
- As soon as the clothes have finished their cycle in the washing machine get them out and hang them up. Clothes that linger in the machine too long can suffer colour runs, and sometimes the damage is irreparable.Â
- As an alternative to washing your clothes, musty smells may be banished by mixing a solution of three parts vodka and two parts water. Popping it in a spray bottle and giving your clothes a mist. If they are still musty the next day, spray again.
- Putting garments in the freezer overnight can also freshen them up.
Ok, that's enough for now. Let's move on.....
